Description
Shotup Herbicide
Active Ingredients: Aminopyralid @ 10g/L & Fluroxypyr @ 140g/L
Similar or comparable to Hotshot Herbicide (Corteva)
Shotup Herbicide is used to control climbing buckwheat and other broadleaf weeds in winter cereals and fallow and lantana and other woody weeds in non-crop situations. Shotup Herbicide contains Fluroxypyr and Aminopyralid. Aminopyralid is a pyridine carboxylic used as a selective, post-emergent herbicide to control key broadleaf weeds. It is a new-generation active ingredient that is effective at very low rates compared to other herbicides.
What weeds does Shotup Herbicide target;
Climbing buckwheat (Fallopia convolvulus) (black bindweed) | Lantana (Lantana camara) | Vetch (Vicia sativa) |
Cockspur thorn (Maclura cochinchinensis) | Mistflower (Ageratina riparia) | Volunteer chickpea (Cicer arietinum) |
Common sowthistle (Sonchus oleraceus) | Prickly lettuce (Lactuca serriola) | Volunteer faba bean (Vicia faba) |
Creeping lantana (Lantana montevidensis) | Red pigweed (Portulaca oleracea) | Volunteer field pea (Pisum sativum) |
Crofton weed (Ageratina adenophora) | Small flowered mallow (Marshmallow) (Malva parviflora) | Wattles, including Acacia aulacocarpa (A. decora, A. harpophylla, A. leiocalyx & A.salicina) |
Deadnettle (Lamium amplexicaule) | Spiny emex (Emex australis) | Wild oats (Avena sterilis spp. ludoviciana) (Avena fatua) |
Docks (Rumex spp.) | St. John’s wort (Hypericum perforatum) | Wireweed (Polygonum aviculare) |
Fireweed (Senecio madagascariensis) | Thistles, including Spear thistle (Cirsium vulgare) | |
Flax-leaf fleabane (Conyza bonariensis) | Variegated thistle (Silybum marianum) |

Shotup Herbicide for Fireweed Control;
Shotup Herbicide gives very good control of fireweed and associated weeds such as thistles. It is registered for boom application at 1.5 L/ha and spot spray at 500mL per 100L Water. It should be used in predominantly grass-based pastures. Both Kikuyu and couch grass may see transitory yellowing from Shotup Herbicide. Follow up the treatment with a high volume spot spraying with Grazon Extra Herbicide or Shotup, depending on the other weeds present.
When small infestations of fireweed are identified, act immediately to prevent the situation from becoming worse and to increase the likelihood of containment, by spot spraying. Early detection and removal of Fireweed is vital. Seeds are long-lived in the soil and produced in large quantities, so seeding prevention is important. Continued vigilance for new outbreaks is required to prevent the establishment of the weed.
Shotup Herbicide for Lantana Control:
Lantana can be treated using Shotup Herbicide using a foliar spray application at a rate of 500 to 700 mL/100 L of water. This method can be used in any Australian state or territory.
The best time to treat for control of lantana is from December through April, although if conditions allow treatment, it can be as early as October or as late as July. Lantana is a heavily branched shrub that can grow as compact clumps and dense thickets as well as a scrambling and climbing vine. The stems are square with small, recurved prickles along the edges. The leaves are bright green above, paler beneath, about 6 cm long, with rounded, toothed edges. Leaves grow opposite one another along the stem. Flowers appear most of the year in clustered compact heads about 2.5 cm in diameter. Flower colours vary from pale cream to yellow, white, pink, orange, red, lilac and purple. Many lantana forms are poisonous to livestock. The toxic components in lantana include the triterpene acids, lantadene A (rehmannic acid), lantadene B and their reduced forms. Most cases of lantana poisoning occur in animals newly introduced into areas where toxic lantana grows. Animals bred in such country rarely show signs of poisoning.
